WORLDWIND
I can't get enough of this right now. Imagine you have a world globe, one of those regular spinning ones; then wouldn't it be great if you could shrink yourself and fly closer and closer to it, and with each swoop there would be more detail, until eventually you could fly down canyons, stand ontop of mountains, well now stop imagining and dowload WorldWind.
But seriously this is actaully a piece of top-notch scientific software, it's just every time I use it I can't get past the awe struck kid in me. It has an amazing level of detail provided by satalite imagery from NASA and the online scientific community, but amazingly WorldWind turns these images into a 3d virtual reality world. It has plenty of additional addons to download. You can even do the same on Mars. It's a big download and so much more than a fantastic way of clearing you head for a few minutes, if only I didn't enjoy the flying so much..Click above to download it.
